The International Ducumentary Association

The International Documentary Association is a non-profit organization founded in 1982 to support the efforts of the non-fiction film and video makers around the world, to promote the documentary form and to encourage and expand opportunities for the production, distribution and exhibition of documentary films and video.

I worked under the direction of Executive Director Betsy McLane in 1993 to promote the IDA Awards that year, and the 1993 DocuFest held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Arts. The IDA Distinguished Documentary Achievement Award in 1993 went to the legendary Bob Drew, who among his many, many cinema verite films includes, Primary (1960).

I had the good fortune of also serving on the Blue Ribbon panel that chose the best IDA documentaries of 1993. I served on the panel with Mel Stuart, then president of the IDA (and director of the famed Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and other films).
